Winter Wedding Ideas

If you’re planning a winter wedding and in need of ideas, it’s the perfect opportunity to create a magical setting for members of the wedding party and all your invited guests.  Keep in mind that the colder it is outside, the more comfortable and warm you’ll want guests to be while they’re indoors.  Follow these simple steps to creating the perfect winter wedding:

  • Entry: As soon as guests enter the venue, they should be greeted with warm air and a place to hang their coats.  If possible, have a coat check so that no one will have to search for their outerwear at the end of the evening.  (Be sure the entryway is carpeted so that no one slips on a hard floor in their dress shoes.)  Also consider serving hot beverages right when people come in, such as cider and hot chocolate.  (Include colored marshmallows with this second option to create a fun treat for kids.)  Add some warm appetizers to this, and everyone will feel happy and comfortable immediately.
  • Decorations: Winter is the perfect time to add sparkle to your decorations.  Silver and gold can be used to accent any color combination.  For winter weddings, you may wish to go with deep bold colors, such as navy blue or a dark purple.  Remember that a bride’s white dress will stand out nicely among these colors.  You may want to hang sparkling snowflakes from the ceiling or along the walls, and candles create a romantic, welcoming ambiance in a dimly lit room.  As such, you may consider centerpieces that include candles, but you’ll want to be sure they’re sturdy and protected so that they don’t fall if someone bumps into a table.  In addition, you can hang strings of off white or light blue lights throughout the room.  Turn these on once dinner has finished and guests start making their way to the dance floor.
  • Dessert table: Winter themed desserts are always fun, and bite-sized options are a great choice for any large gathering.  You can have miniature cupcakes with light blue or silver frosting, and top each one with an edible pearl.  Pumpkin and gingerbread flavored cookies are a favorite at this time of year, so why not offer them with a variety of frosting or glaze? If you know people will be staying long into the night, consider including donuts as one of your dessert options, as they also make a perfect late night snack.
  • Wedding Favors: Take the chill off with hot cocoa or coffee wedding favors.  You can purchase them already personalized with a label or create your own by buying the drink mixes in bulk.  Personalize them with your own labels made from a printer.   If your guests celebrate Christmas, you can always give personalized wedding favor ornaments.
