On cold days, my favorite dish to make is chilli. Here is the recipe I use as my “go to” because it is easy and delicious.
Ingredients:
1 lb ground turkey or ground beef
1 large chopped onion
1 green or red pepper, chopped
3 cans of beans (2 cans kidney and 1 can black)
1 28 oz can crushed or diced tomatoes
2 “tomato” cans of water (using the 28 oz can)
1 heaping tsp. of Better than Beef Bullion (secret ingredient)
1 bay leaf
Pinch of sugar
1/3 cup of corn meal (optional)
Steps:
1. Brown veggies until they wilt and put in a bowl
2. Brown ground beef
3. Add veggies and the rest of the ingredients. Bring to a boil.
4. Simmer for at least a couple of hours.
I actually use a crock pot now and just put everything in it. However, I still brown the beef and saute the veggies. The cornmeal is a great quick thickening agent.
Many of my family members love chili, but can’t take the spice. Here is a recipe that I have adapted so that it is flavorful and doesn’t use chili powder
