- Decide on a budget. Remember that the gown is just one piece of the celebration, which will likely contain other accessories, such as shoes and a veil, as well as party supplies. Search online and in various stores to find a price that meets your budget. Start looking with plenty of time to spare so that you won’t have to overspend as the date draws nearer.
- Consider the weather for the day of the ceremony, and choose a fabric that will be most appropriate and comfortable for your daughter. Remember that light cotton tends to breathe easier than silk or satin, so if it’s going to be warm, you may want to consider a cotton gown. Also, if the First Communion celebration is in a cold month, considering purchasing a matching shawl to accompany the dress.
- Choose a design that you and your daughter can be happy with. Many dresses include lace, toile, or even sequins. Also, the neckline may be straight across, v-necked, square, or even scooped. Finally, you may choose a full skirt or one that is straight. Whether your daughter prefers something elaborate and flashy or simple and elegant, you’re sure to find something that fits her perfectly.
- Determine which accessories to purchase with the dress. White shoes match Communion dresses well, though if you choose a cream colored dress, you may wish to purchase black shoes. Also, be sure the veil matches the design of the dress, perhaps even including similar adornments.
