DIY Candy Jars – Cheap Favors

DIY Candy Jars – Cheap Favors

If you are looking for cheap favors that look  elegant, consider up-cycling your frappuccino bottles.  My brother in law goes through Starbucks frappuccino like babies go through milk.  That is why when I saw this post by Seleise of Amethyst Cat Blog Spot – Stamping with Seleise, I knew that I had found the perfect guest gift.

You can see that the outside of the bottle has a simple wrap made of paper with either sparkly ribbon or twine tied around it.   The bottle cap has a decorative label on the top of it.  These round labels are readily available as blanks in just about any office supply store.  You can personalize them on your computer.    Inside the bottles are M & M’s in a variety of colors.   Seliese created two different designs one for boys and one for girls.  She changed the decoration and candy color for each design.  She  also added a personalized bookmark to each of the candy jars and attached them with twine.  The bookmarks are stamped with unique and fun designs.  What a creative and functional idea!

To create your own frap jar candy favors, be sure to visit Amethyst Cat Stamping with Seliese.  You will find very detailed directions about everything from getting the original jar label off to specifics about adhering the wrap.

You can put just about any type of small treat for the taste buds inside of the jars.  With the mouth of the bottle being somewhat wide, it is easy to fill it with items that are a bit larger.   Candy ideas include Jolly Ranchers, wrapped Hershey’s Kisses, Jelly Belly jelly beans, chocolate lentils, gummy bears or other shapes, Sweedish fish, oange or citrus chewy slices, Jordan Almonds, or even coffee flavor candy.   Trader Joe’s carries my favorite coffee candy covered in a pretty gold wrapper.  It is called Coffee Rio – Original Roast Premium Coffee Candy.  Other fillers can include dry drink mixes like coffee, lemonade, or even a homemade hot chocolate powder.   You can find some easy recipes for hot cocoa on All Recipes.com or Martha Stewart.  However, the one that looks most delicious is on Frugal Momma.com.     Remember to thoroughly wash and dry the inside of the bottles.

Another decoration option is to adhere personalized tags to each bottle with the name of the guest of honor, or if  you are particularly crafty you can print the names of each guest on the tag and use the favors as place card holders.
